Break Cat is a macOS menu bar app that brings a playful cat across your screen when it is time for a break. Take a pause, snooze, or carry on — you decide.

Getting along with your cat

Find the paw in your menu bar

Choose Open Break Cat to change timing. Close the settings window to keep reminders running; choose Quit Break Cat to stop the app.

Make the timer yours

The default is 50 minutes of active use followed by a 5-minute break. Choose a work interval of 15, 25, 50, 60, or 90 minutes and a break of 1, 3, 5, or 10 minutes.

Try a visit right away

Choose Show cat now for a preview, or Preview in 10 seconds to see the cat over another app. The preview uses an 8-second break and preserves your work timer.

Take a break on your terms

The cat's reminder offers a break, a 5-minute snooze, and a dismiss action. You can pause reminders from the menu bar or settings.
